DONATE TO THE NATIONAL DISASTER RELIEF FUND - You can help the victims of thousands of disasters across the country each year, disasters like the Hurricanes of 2008, by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. This Fund enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to victims of disasters. The American Red Cross honors donor intent. If you wish to designate your donation to a specific disaster please do so at the time of your donation by either contacting 1-800-REDCROSS or mailing your donation, with the designation, to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, D.C. 20013.

DONATE TO THE INTERNATIONAL RESPONSE FUND  - You can help the victims of countless crises around the world each year by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, which will provide immediate relief and long-term support through supplies, technical assistance and other support to help those in need. The American Red Cross honors donor intent. If you wish to designate your donation to a specific disaster, please do so at the time of your donation by mailing your donation with the designation to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, D.C. 20013 or to your local American Red Cross chapter. Donations to the International Response Fund can be made by phone at 1-800-REDCROSS or 1-800-257-7575 (Spanish).

 STOCK GIFTS -   The Red Cross is delighted to accept gifts of appreciated stock. If your stocks, bonds or mutual funds that have appreciated in value, you have a unique opportunity to realize tax savings by making an outright gift of stock!

First, you may earn a federal income tax deduction for the full fair market value of the securities as long as you have owned them for longer than one year. Second, you may avoid all of the capital gains tax that would be due on the sale of the securities.

Giving stock helps us help your neighbors, and may be a very tax-wise way to make a gift. The procedure is simple. We’ll be delighted to walk you through the process or work directly with your broker.

Your personal financial situation is unique; therefore, you should discuss your estate plans with your family and financial and legal advisers before making any charitable gift.

 
DONATE THROUGH YOUR EMPLOYER -  Matching Gifts -- Your gift could be matched dollar for dollar!

Many companies offer matching gift programs that will double, even triple a donation's value. Check with your company to find out if your company will match your contribution to the Mid Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross. 

Once you have determined that your company matches donations made to the Red Cross, obtain the appropriate form from your personnel/human resources office and send it with a copy of your gift receipt to the address below:

Please be sure to complete the entire donor portion of the form and to include a copy of your gift receipt (if available). If you would like to designate the gift to a specific program, please indicate that on the form. If you have questions about your company's matching gift program, please contact your personnel/human resources office.  

 
DONATE GOODS - The Red Cross is unable to accept small, individual donations or collections of items such as clothing, food or cleaning supplies. The cost to sort, package and distribute these types of donations to disaster victims is greater than the cost of purchasing the items locally, and it is logistically impossible to distribute a wide variety of individual items in a meaningful way.

Because of these cost and logistical concerns, we recommend that you support your community by donating these items to an organization that is equipped to put them to the best possible local use.

Please call the United Way of Mid Coast Maine at 207-443-9752 for a list of organizations in our area that can accept gifts of this nature. 

Offers of sizeable, bulk donations are reviewed to determine if they meet a current need for disaster victims that can be addressed by the Red Cross. These bulk donations are typically new, shrink-wrapped and palletized items, which are transported by the donor.

 TRIBUTE GIFTS  - Tribute gifts can be made in honor or memory of a friend or loved one. A tribute gift is a wonderful way to let someone know that you are thinking of him or her on a special day.   When your gift is received, we will send a Red Cross card to the person you are honoring, or to the family of the person of whom you have made a gift in memory (the amount of the contribution is confidential). You will receive a letter of acknowledgment for your gift.
