Red Cross the only worldwide link for
military families

The American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) has the unique distinction of being mandated by Congress to provide "24/7/365" services to military members and their families, separated by conflict and tours of duty, anywhere in the world regardless of how remote the site.

The Red Cross delivers more than 1.4 million emergency messages to military installations and family residences around the world each year. Last year, the Mid Coast Chapter provided emergency communications and assistance services to 57 men and women of the Armed Forces and their families, thanks in part, due to a grant from the Bath Iron Works Corporation.

Members of the Armed Forces and local families with loved ones serving in military rely on Mid Coast Chapter volunteers and staff for messages of births, as well as solemn news of family illnesses or deaths. Our volunteers and staff send messages quickly, anywhere in the world, including to ships at sea, embassies and isolated military units.

In addition to sending emergency communications, the Red Cross provides financial assistance for emergency travel, burial of a loved one or other urgent needs. We also provide counseling, information, referrals and other social services to military families.

Active duty service members and their immediate family members can call our Service to the Armed Forces Service Center for help 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1-888-737-4306.
