Mid Coast Chapter responds to Swine Flu outbreaks with flu preparedness information for communities
The Mid Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross is closely monitoring the recent outbreaks for Swine flu and encourages communities to be prepared for this and other disaster and emergencies.
Swine flu, like other strains of influenza, is a respiratory infection. The best thing families and individuals can do at this time is maintain proper hygiene, like coughing into your sleeve or a tissue instead of your hands; wash your hands regularly, and stay home if you are sick.”
The Mid Coast Chapter reminds community members to take the following flu preparedness steps:
- Eat a balanced diet
· Drink plenty of fluids
· Exercise
· Manage stress
· Get plenty of rest
· Wash hands frequently
· Avoid or minimize contact with sick people
· Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve if you cough or sneeze
Be aware of flu symptoms:
· High fever
· Body aches
· Extreme tiredness
· Sore throat, cough, runny or stuffy nose, vomiting/and or diarrhea
Families and individuals who develop flu like symptoms are encouraged to contact their health care provider, who can determine the best course of treatment.
